12 U.S. Youth Athletes Head To 2018 Lifesaving World Championships

Emma Sainsbury-Carter is an athlete from Los Angeles, California where she attends Marymount High School. She has been swimming competitively since she was nine years old. She swims both in the pool and open water. Her specialty is distance and surf rescue. She represented the USA in 2017 at the DHL International Surf Rescue Challenge in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand where she competed against Japan, Great Britain, New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa in the Uner 19 (U19) division. She has the honor and privilege of again representing the USA on the world stage at the ILS World Lifeguard Championships where she will compete against more than 30 countries in surf rescue. This competition takes place in Adelaide, Australia in November of 2018.
Emma trains with Westside Aquatics under Peter Fishler, with Marymount High School under Lena Dansdill, and with the United States Lifesaving Association's High Performance Squad under Casey Graham and Gus Avila.
Emma is also a good social citizen focusing her efforts on raising money for learn to swim programs for underprivileged youth in Los Angeles (Coast2Coast Swim Challenge) and feeding the homeless (Food on Foot, St. Vincents). She is also certified in CPR/AED through the Red Cross and is a California State Parks Lifeguard at Huntington State Beach.
Finally, Emma is a good student with aspirations in the area of Sports Psychology. She is enrolled in both Honors and AP Classes.
Emma hopes to continue to pursue her academic, social and athletic endeavors at the college level.
